How do I create an account?
Tap “Sign Up” in the top right corner, enter your name, email address, and create a password (minimum 8 characters). Once registered, you can personalize your teams, manage subscriptions, and use the optimizer to reduce confusion and wasted spend.
Do I need an account to use The Playbook?
You can browse core schedules and viewing paths without an account. Creating a free account unlocks your personalized control center: favorite teams, My Games, subscription management, and optimizer workflows.
Is The Playbook really free?
The Playbook has Free and Pro plans. Free includes schedule intelligence, viewing paths, blackout clarity, My Teams, My Games, and alerts. Pro adds full Subscription Optimizer workflows and savings recommendations. See Pricing for details.
What does “All,” “NBA,” and “NHL” mean in the sport dropdown?
The sport dropdown filters which games are displayed. NBA shows only NBA games. NHL shows only NHL games. All combines both leagues into a single chronological view, sorted by game time.
What’s the difference between “All Games” and “My Games”?
All Games shows every scheduled game for the selected sport(s). My Games filters to only show games involving your favorite teams, so you can quickly find what matters to you.
How do I set my location?
Go to Settings (tap your profile icon, then “Settings”). Under the Location section, search for your zip code, city, or state and select from the results. Your location determines which regional sports networks and blackout restrictions apply.
Why is League Pass or ESPN+ not shown for some games?
NBA League Pass and NHL streaming services have blackout restrictions. Games broadcast nationally (ESPN, TNT, ABC, NBC) or on your local regional sports network are blacked out on these services. The Playbook automatically detects blackouts based on your location. Blacked-out options are shown at the bottom of the “Where to Watch” list, dimmed and marked as “Blacked out.”
What does the blue “Not included in your subscriptions” banner mean?
This blue info box appears when none of the available “Where to Watch” options for a game are included in the subscriptions you’ve added. To resolve this, open your Viewing Subscriptions and add the services you have. Once added, games you can watch will show a green “You can watch this game” banner instead.
What is the NBC Sports App option?
For games broadcast on regional NBC Sports channels (e.g., NBC Sports Boston, NBC Sports Bay Area), the NBC Sports App is also listed as a streaming option. This is the direct-to-consumer way to watch these games if you don’t have the cable channel, similar to how FanDuel Sports Network DTC works for other regional markets.
What does the Subscription Optimizer do?
The optimizer analyzes your next 30 days and shows estimated coverage, estimated costs, and estimated savings across plan options. Results can change based on provider pricing, blackout rules, and location updates.
Can I see optimizer results for NBA, NHL, or both?
Yes. The Subscriptions tab has its own sport dropdown (separate from All Games / My Games). Select NBA for NBA needs only, NHL for NHL, or All for a combined view of everything you need across both leagues.
How do I mark which services I already have?
Open Viewing Subscriptions (the TV icon in the header). You’ll see national channels, regional channels, and regional streaming services. Tap any row to mark it as owned. The optimizer uses this to estimate your next 30 days. If no services are selected, plans can still run, but estimated gaps will be higher.
Why are these results labeled as estimates?
Coverage, pricing, and savings depend on third-party provider data and local availability. Schedules, channel rights, and pricing can change. Always verify details with providers before purchasing or cancelling services.
What does “overlapping services” mean?
Some services carry the same games (e.g., TNT and Max, or NBC and Peacock). If you have both services in an overlapping pair, the optimizer will flag them in your “Subscriptions at a Glance” section so you know you may not need both. Similarly, if you have both a regional cable channel and its direct-to-consumer streaming counterpart, that overlap will be noted.
What is included in the Free plan?
The Free plan includes schedule intelligence (NBA and NHL), viewing path mapping for every game, blackout detection, My Teams and My Games, and email notifications (Morning Digest and Game Reminders). No credit card required.
What does Pro include?
Pro ($4.99/month) includes everything in Free plus the full Subscription Optimizer: As-Is, Complete Coverage, and Cheapest Rebuild plans, Smart Saving Suggestions, 30-day coverage calendars, and estimated cost analysis.
How do I cancel Pro?
Go to Settings and open Subscription. Click "Manage Subscription" to open the billing portal and cancel. You keep Pro through the current billing period. Cancellation timing suggestions in the optimizer are informational only and do not cancel services for you.
How does billing work?
Pro is billed monthly at $4.99 through Stripe. It renews automatically until cancelled. You can view your next billing date in Settings and manage or cancel from the billing portal.
How do I select my favorite teams?
Tap “My Teams” in the header. Switch between NBA and NHL using the segmented control, then tap any team to toggle it as a favorite. Your selections save automatically and apply across My Games, the optimizer, and subscription recommendations.
Can I follow teams from both NBA and NHL?
Absolutely. Select favorites from both leagues and use the “All” option in the sport dropdown to see everything combined into a single unified view.
What is the Morning Digest email?
The Morning Digest is a daily email sent early each morning that shows all games for your favorite teams that day, including local start times and the best available viewing path for each game. If none of your favorite teams are playing, it suggests notable national TV games in those leagues instead.
What is the Game Reminder email?
Game Reminders are emails sent approximately one hour before your favorite team’s game starts. Each reminder includes the matchup, game time, and your viewing options, so you never miss tip-off or puck drop.
How do I enable or disable email notifications?
Go to Settings (tap your profile icon, then “Settings”). Under Notifications, you’ll find separate toggles for “Morning Digest Email” and “Game Reminder Email.” Toggle each one independently. Changes save automatically when you flip the toggle — no need to press a separate save button.
How do I unsubscribe from emails?
Every email includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also go to Settings and toggle off the notification types you no longer want. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
How do I change my password?
Go to Settings (tap your profile icon, then “Settings”). Under Account, tap “Change Password.” Enter your current password, then your new password (minimum 8 characters) and confirm it.
How do I update my name or email?
Go to Settings. Under Personal Information, edit your name or email and tap “Save Changes.”
Does The Playbook support dark mode?
Yes. The Playbook runs in dark mode by default across the entire site.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings and use Delete Account near the bottom. This permanently deletes your account and associated personal data after password confirmation, as described in our Privacy Policy.
